Hello, my name is Vicki! I grew up in Muscatine and have lived here almost my entire life. My passion for animals has been around since I was a little girl. I always said that I wanted to be a veterinarian but it wasn't until I was in high school that I had to reevaluate that idea because of the hard work and harder decisions they have to make which I knew I wasn't capable of doing. When I was little I used to bring home every slightly injured animal I ran into and demanded that we care for it.
In 3rd grade I actually found a bird that wasn't flying while I was walking to the bus stop. I didn't have time to take it back home so my smart idea was to wrap it in my sweatshirt and take it to school. I did just that. It sat in my locker for about an hour before one of my classmates told on me and I had to release the bird outside with tears streaming down my face.
Most recently I have rescued a Pacman frog that was stepped on by a dog, a baby false mapping turtle who had been covered in gluten at a local factory, and a bearded dragon. I wasn't able to get my own dog until 2019 when I got a lab mix. He is my old man who is now the older sibling to two younger dogs he loves to yell at for rough housing. He rescued me more than I rescued him and I don't think I could ever live without another dog. Lastly I have a very stubborn cat who refuses to stay inside the house even though he is very much in charge of everyone.
Life got away from me for a while but I always knew I wanted to work with animals. In 2023 I started studying general educations courses at an online university focused on animal studies. I studied there for two years before I rediscovered my love for veterinary medicine and start veterinary technician classes online at Penn Foster. Additionally I found myself working at Blue Grass Vet as a receptionist where I was welcomed with open arms and I am excited to see what my future here looks like.
